The Monroe City Public Library

Internet Use Policy

Policy for using computers and the internet.

The Monroe City Public Library is dedicated to making digital equity available to our patrons by providing internet access computers. These computers are available on a first-come first-served basis for one (1) hour at a time. Valid ID is required. We also have free, high-speed WiFi available.

Accessing the internet through the Library must be done in a responsible manner, while respecting the rights of others and utilizing the equipment with care. To comply with State and Federal laws governing internet access by minors, the Library has content filtering software on all computers and wireless networks. Filtering does not block all sites that patrons may feel are offensive and does block some sites that may be valid and inoffensive. Parents or guardians, not the library or its staff, are responsible for their children’s behavior and information accessed on the internet.

The following is considered inappropriate internet use and will not be tolerated by Monroe City Public Library:

  • Violation of any applicable international, federal, state, or local laws, ordinances, rules, or regulations.
  • Harassment of other persons or parties.
  • Viewing and/or printing inappropriate images or text that may be reasonably construed as obscene in an open and public setting is not appropriate.
  • Deliberately bypassing the content filtering software without appropriate Library staff authorization.
  • Destruction of, or damage to, equipment, software, or data belonging to the Library or other users.
  • Gaining or attempting to gain unauthorized access to any computing, information, or communications devices or resources.
  • Unauthorized copying of copyrighted or other protected materials.
  • Violation of any computer system security.
  • Use of computer facilities in ways that purposefully and unnecessarily impede the computing activities of others.
  • Engaging in any activity that is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous, or slanderous.
  • Installing or attempting to install any software on Monroe City Public Library computers.
